The teachers are there, the rooms are ready, and the excited anxiety hangs in the air as the first bus full of children rolls in. The silence is broken by the sound of small voices happily chatting with their book bags in tow. The sound of small feet echoes up the stairs followed by the happy voices of the kids. Each teacher is ready they have been preparing for the last couple weeks for this year and are ready to see the kids learn and flourish.
Last year ended abruptly as tensions for Syrian refugees ran high after some political issues. There were fears of raids and there were even questions about whether or not our oldest students would be able to test.
Over the summer the fear has shifted and the questions of the situation between Hezbollah and Israel have become the larger question.
Despite everything happening these children deserve an education. They deserve a chance to show their God given talents and show that they can be a part of the needed change in their families, their communities and the region.
God has set a dream in every heart. Each of these children needs a path to walk to make that dream come true. We pray for each student as they start this year that the dreams that God has given them will not be dampened by circumstance or by words from the world around them, but they will believe as one of the girls at our summer camp declared, “If God is with me, nothing can conquer me.”
