The past week in Lebanon has been intense, with Israeli attacks marking an escalation in the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, the militant group based in southern Lebanon. The airstrikes, which were triggered by rising tensions in the region, have targeted Hezbollah positions and critical infrastructure.
As a result, a large number of civilians have been displaced, fleeing the violence in the south. The UN estimates that 500,000 people, or 10% of Lebanon’s population, are now seeking refuge in public schools or sleeping outdoors in parks.
An additional half a million people are expected to flee, but resources to support them are scarce. Schools have been converted into shelters, but they lack adequate facilities to meet the needs of the displaced. With winter approaching, fears of a humanitarian crisis are mounting. Many people from the south, especially those who depend on agriculture, have lost not only their homes and possessions but also their livelihoods, as their fields have been destroyed by the bombings.
Triumphant Mercy has partnered with local shelters and has begun providing hot meals to those taking refuge there each day.
In times like this we can really embody the fact that we are the body of Christ. We are his hands and feet. We bring His love with every stir of the rice, with every scoop of lentils, with every smile as a meal is handed off this is our opportunity to bring His presence into the chaos and pain. We pray for a better Lebanon, we pray for peace and we work taking the steps that cross into where He wants to reach.
