Stories

Five in the morning Zahra and her family were woken up by the sound of gunfire. A warning from the Israeli army to evacuate the area she lived in the Baalbek had gone out. When the warnings go out no one knows how much time they have. They left in their pajamas and grabbed nothing else for fear of taking too long.

They moved to Saadneyal near our center in the Bekka. Their house had been hit and everything was gone. Baalbek is a stronghold for Hezbollah and so many homes had been hit in this area.

They began receiving some help from our center and getting to know us. After a week or so Zahra asked if she could help sometime and not only receive. She wanted to help give also. She had been touched by the atmosphere that our team creates there and felt she wanted to give back.

Last week she came to help with the distribution. You could see the peace and joy on her face as she helped in hearing other people’s stories and being able to help meet others needs. She told our staff she felt safe with us and wants to continue coming to activities.

She had learned the truth that “it is better to give than to receive” in real time. Though her family struggles she was encountering God in a new way.

As we approach Easter we see what the Lord gave for us. His life, Himself. This is the ultimate eternal gift that we tell each beneficiary about. This is why she feels peace and safety at our center because of what He gave to us.
